Have you read American Psycho?

Bret Easton Ellis is a great writer but sometimes he goes overboard on the shock element. I have started American Psycho and it seems so far like some of his other writings and I have not seen any horrific scenes yet. I am wondering if the book becomes more disturbing later as if testing the limits of the reader or if there is just enough restraint on Ellis' part to make the gory scenes (that I have not encountered yet but was informed about) bearable?
